Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist (Deep Brain Stimulation Service)

This role is part of the Movement Disorder team at Sheffield teaching Hospital.
The Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist In DBS will work collaboratively with the broader Movement Disorder and Neurosurgery team, delivering high quality care to patients with movement disorders and dystonia undergoing Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) from the preoperative phase, through the intraoperative and postoperative stages, and into long-term management.
The CNS has responsibilities on Clinical Practice; Leadership; Education and Research.
Main duties of the job
The post holder must be flexible in the approach to the clinical area, acting as a professional role model, involved in direct or indirect provision of care.
The post holder will assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care, ensuring the provision of specialist advice to this caseload of patients and participate in decision making as a member of the wider Movement Disorder team and Neurosurgery MDT.
The post holder will act as an advocate and apply in-depth knowledge of clinical and holistic aspects of care to patients in the DBS pathway, acting as a resource to patients/ service users, families, carers and healthcare professionals.
The post holder will lead on various clinical and service initiatives, including service planning, and management of patients and resources in line with allocated budgets.

Person Specification
* Registered Nurse.
* Neuroscience Nursing Course or equivalent.
* Evidence of Continuing Professional development relevant to the post.
* Ability to practice within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct
* To have completed the national practice assessor training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
* Experience of clinical supervision of junior staff.
* Experience of change management.
Experience
* Extensive Post registration experience in a neurosurgery or neurology setting.
* Experience of working with patients with movement disorders undergoing surgical procedure.
* Ability to work within a team and independently.
* Ability to plan and carry out a challenging workload.
* Experience of working at a band 6 level in a neurological or neurosurgical setting.
Skills/ knowledge/ abilities
* Competent interpersonal skills.
* Able to manage difficult situations effectively.
* Able to use initiative.
* Able to prioritise and meet deadlines.
* Understanding and knowledge of functional neurosurgery and movement disorders.
* Able to use basic IT systems, including MS Office (which may include but not be limited to Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).

* Motivated and able to motivate and lead others.
* Able to perform comprehensive patient assessments and plans.
* Ability to work within a pressured environment for prolonged periods of time e.g. surgery.
