WSP is delivering AMP8 WINEP projects for multiple high-profile UK water companies and supporting water companies with hydrology for their WRMPs. The role offers opportunities to work on diverse environmental and water resources assignments and to develop as a leader within a growing team.
Responsibilities
* Contribute to hydrological and water management elements of WINEP investigations and WRMP inputs from recent AMP cycles.
* Develop rainfall–runoff models (e.g., GR6J) and apply model calibration techniques.
* Apply broader hydrology approaches for water resources applications in England and Wales, including flow naturalisation, decomposition, and reservoir mass balance modelling.
* Familiarity with demand management and water resources modelling approaches (e.g., Aquator, PyWR, MISER).
* Understand UK water resources management regulations, including the Water Resources Planning Guidelines and WINEP guidance (e.g., Preventing Deterioration and Environmental Destination).
* Assess climate change resilience using data products such as UKCP18.
* Supervise small hydrology teams; mentor and develop junior colleagues with potential for formal people management.
* Deliver high-quality client and regulator-facing deliverables with attention to detail and quality assurance.
* Programming experience (Python and/or R) is advantageous, with an interest in developing these skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills for concise reports and collaborating with other sectors/disciplines.
Qualifications
* A water-focused MSc (e.g., hydrology & water resources, sustainable water management) and a related BSc (e.g., physical geography, earth sciences, geology, civil engineering).
* Gained or working towards chartership with a relevant professional body.
