Perinatal Mental Health Midwife

We would like to recruit a highly motivated Midwife to join our welcoming, supportive and friendly Enhanced Support Midwifery team working across central Lancashire.

You will support their colleagues through coordinating care; providing training and guidance in maternal mental health for key maternity staff, to enable them to provide holistic care that optimises mental as well as physical health.

The post holder will support the Specialist Perinatal Midwife within the team on a daily basis caring for women and their families with perinatal mental health and complex social issues.

The post holder will work in partnership with a multi-agency and multi-disciplinary team from health and social care to provide and co-ordinate the highest standards of care for women and their families with mental health concerns and complex social needs.

To support their colleagues through coordinating care; providing training and guidance in maternal mental health for key maternity staff, to enable them to provide holistic care that optimises mental as well as physical health.

Support the Specialist Perinatal Mental health Midwife in providing knowledge and advice, education and training to other maternity staff and students, including medical staff, on all aspects of perinatal mental health management for women in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period.


Main duties of the job

? Perform a key role within the enhanced support midwifery team. Within this role, it is essential to develop and maintain high standards of care for women and their families with complex social needs and challenges in pregnancy and the postnatal period.

? You will support the specialist midwives within the team on a daily basis caring for women and their families with complex social needs perinatal mental health.

? You will be rostered within the team to carry out the daily safety huddle and duty responsibilities.

? Have a sound based knowledge of working with families with complex social needs and perinatal mental health.

Job responsibilities

Work closely with women and their families to plan and coordinate their care based on their individual needs.

You will provide a link between the maternity service and other services involved in the womans care planning.

You will work in partnership with a multi-agency and multi-disciplinary team from health, perinatal mental health and social care to provide high standards of care for women and their families.

Youwill act at all times in a manner that upholds the Trusts values and Nursing & Midwifery Professional Framework goals, working as part of a team to ensure that women and relatives receive excellent care with compassion.

Person Specification


Qualifications & Education

* Registered midwife with valid NMC registration
* Degree
* Master's Degree
* Teaching certificate


Knowledge & Experience

* Must have recent safeguarding experience at band 6
* Experience in working with women with complex social needs
* Experience of attending child protection conferences, MARAC, strategy meetings, planning meetings, core group meetings and substance misuse meetings with local partners to ensure collaborative working
* Knowledge of Clinical Governance and the relevance to practice
* Experience of writing and developing policies and procedures
* Maintains own reflective practice
* Demonstrates effective listening skills and communication skills
* To have the ability to provide safeguarding Supervision for relevant staff groups.
* Experience in working in a multidisciplinary team
* Experience of working in a variety of maternity settings/environments
* Experience in developing and delivering training in domestic abuse, substance misuse, mental health, safeguarding and complex social issues
* Experience of implementing changes and service developments
* Knowledge of the PDPR process
* Evidence of working at Band 7
