Job overview

Managerially accountable to the Divisional Director of Operations, (and professionally accountable to the Divisional Director), the General Manager for the Theatres, Anaesthetics & Pain Directorate will be responsible for providing operational and strategic leadership to ensure that the Directorate provides high quality patient care and achieves its performance objectives. Additionally the General Manager will work closely with colleagues at across the North West London region to develop new models of care and patient pathways.

Main duties of the job

1. Be accountable for the operational performance of a large, complex Directorate. This will include accountability for the delivery of high quality patient care, clinical governance, patient safety, clinical quality, and delivery of financial targets.
2. Have joint responsibility with the other Directorate General Managers and members of the Divisional management team for driving forward division wide programmes of work and service developments.
3. Work closely with the Divisional Director of Operations to shape and implement the corporate objectives for the Trust.
4. Support the Divisional Director of Operations to align the Directorate more closely with Imperial College, through the development of appropriate links with the Academic Health Science Centre office and with college counterparts.
5. Ensure that the necessary corporate governance arrangements are in place across the Division in line with requirements of a Trust.

Person specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria

6. First degree or equivalent.
7. Evidence of other specialist knowledge at higher degree or masters level.
8. Extensive knowledge of the NHS in the acute sector with up to date knowledge of patient services.
9. Evidence of CPD.

Experience

Essential criteria

10. Demonstrable success in delivering large scale change and performance with and through management and clinical team.
11. Track record of financial delivery, experience of writing complex business cases and policies.
12. Experience of managing and deciding on complex employment issues.
13. Well-developed IT skills to manage and report on complex performance management information.

Desirable criteria

14. Cross site operational/clinical working.

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential criteria

15. Ability to think and plan strategically, tactically and creatively, and to prioritise work programs in the face of competing demands
16. Ability to manage and deliver services within resources.
17. Ability to critically analyse complex financial and clinical data sets.
18. Able to effectively manage performance by holding themselves and others to account for service outcomes
19. Able to actively contribute to plans to achieve service goals.
20. Manage people, by providing direction, reviewing performance, and motivating others.
