Senior Midwife – Band 7 – Borders General Hospital, Maternity Department

Overview
As a Senior Midwife, you will lead the midwifery and health care support worker team on the Labour ward, coordinating clinical workload across the ante/postnatal wards, and provide leadership within a small, consultant‑led maternity service delivering approximately 900 births annually. Your role will support professional development, foster teamwork, and uphold NHS Borders values of care, quality, and respect.
Responsibilities
- Manage and lead the midwifery and support worker team on the Labour ward on a day‑to‑day basis.
- Coordinate clinical workload across the labour and ante/postnatal wards.
- Provide clinical leadership and direction under pressure.
- Support professional development and the training of the workforce.
- Maintain high standards of care and uphold NHS Borders values.
Qualifications
- Registered Midwife with Band 6 (or equivalent) experience.
- Demonstrated experience in leadership and management of a midwifery team.
- Commitment to professional development and supporting others.
- Ability to lead under pressure and manage complex maternity care.
- Alignment with NHS Borders values of care, quality, teamwork, dignity, respect, openness, honesty and responsibility.
- Valid right to work in the United Kingdom.
