Health & Safety Advisor – Heavy Civils
This role is ideal for someone with a solid background in health, safety, and environmental management in a heavy civil construction setting. You’ll be responsible for supporting compliance with all HSE regulations, driving performance improvements, and ensuring work is being carried out safely and responsibly — both on-site and across supporting functions.
Key Responsibilities
* Work within an Integrated Management System, following established procedures and communicating progress to the QHSE leadership
* Help maintain and improve the company’s Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality systems
* Stay on top of legislation changes and advise on potential impacts to operations
* Conduct regular site audits and inspections
* Identify, record, and escalate non-conformances, and support in implementing corrective actions
* Assist with incident investigations and root cause analysis
* Support the adoption of new technologies or ways of working to improve safety standards
* Monitor action plans to ensure timely and effective close-out
Skills & Knowledge
* Strong knowledge of current health, safety, environmental, and quality regulations and best practices
* Confident in reporting and document preparation
* Familiarity with operational risks specific to heavy civils and work near or on water
* Able to promote a positive HSE culture across diverse teams and locations
Experience
* Background in heavy civil engineering or infrastructure projects
* Experience working with ISO management systems:
o ISO 9001 (Quality)
o ISO 14001 (Environmental)
o ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety)
* Comfortable conducting audits and inspections in construction and water-influenced environments
Technical Skills
* Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
Qualifications
* NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent
* Additional environmental training or qualifications desirable
* Full UK driving licence
* CSCS card
