Part‑time (0.6 WTE, 22.5 hours per week) Speech and Language Therapist to work within the Acute General Medicine inpatient workstream at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.
Main Duties
* Use specialist clinical skills to assess, diagnose and manage adults with swallowing and communication disorders across a complex medical caseload.
* Determine and implement evidence‑based interventions and develop patient‑centred care plans.
* Make independent decisions about caseload management and treatment planning.
* Contribute to audit, quality improvement and service development projects.
* Provide supervision for students and support junior staff.
* Cover the caseloads of other Speech and Language Therapists during annual or sick leave.
Policy / Service Development / Implementation
* Represent Speech and Language Therapy at multidisciplinary team meetings.
* Produce timely statistical data and maintain accurate clinical records in line with Trust guidelines.
* Ensure compliance with health and safety, infection control and data protection requirements.
* Participate in incident reporting, risk management and clinical governance activities.
* Inform and implement service or policy developments within own specialist area.
Financial and Physical Resources
* Monitor stock levels, request new equipment and manage equipment maintenance.
* Ensure infection control and safety standards for all equipment, including loaned items.
Human Resources
* Supervise and mentor junior therapists, support workers and therapy assistants.
* Assist with student clinical placements and support for students from other professional groups.
* Explain the role of Speech and Language Therapists to visitors and professionals.
* Engage in ongoing specialist training and identify training needs within the team.
Information Resources
* Maintain accurate case notes in line with RCSLT standards and Trust policies.
* Adhere to data protection guidelines when sharing information.
* Gather and report activity data as required by local Trust guidelines.
Research and Development
* Participate in and develop innovations in risk management, quality standards and clinical effectiveness.
* Undertake clinical governance and audit projects within the local service.
* Collect and provide research data for developmental research and formal projects.
Qualifications
* Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent.
* Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC) registration.
* Formal post‑graduate dysphagia training.
* Registered Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) – desirable.
Experience and Knowledge
* Evidence of high level of specialist knowledge/skills through experience and CPD.
* Experience working within acute general medicine speciality.
* Experience working in a multi‑disciplinary team.
* Knowledge and application of the principles of Clinical Governance.
* Experience supervising students/junior staff – desirable.
* Experience of service review, quality improvement and audit – desirable.

Proposed Salary & Employment Details
