Join to apply for the Electronic Engineering Summer Placement role at Leonardo.
The programme runs from 1 June to 28 August 2026 and is designed to help you apply your studies in a practical setting, develop technical skills, and gain insight into how the business operates. The 13-week paid placement offers coaching and support from a dedicated team, with potential to return for future placements or progress onto the Graduate Development Programme. It is based on-site in Edinburgh with opportunities to design, test or integrate hardware as part of the team.
Our Summer Placement Programme
• 13-week placement working on meaningful projects with subject matter experts within multidisciplinary teams across the product lifecycle.
• Coaching and support throughout the placement, with potential to progress within Leonardo.
• On-site presence encouraged for three to four days each week to maximise learning and integration with the team.
As an Electronic Engineering Summer Placement student, you will
* Contribute to solving real-life engineering problems on state-of-the-art avionics sensor systems, with emphasis on practical skills not easily gained in university.
* Collaborate with colleagues across multiple disciplines to help project targets and solve problems.
* Apply academic knowledge to real projects, including design, testing, qualification and/or technology support.
* Develop practical hardware design skills for aerospace applications, understand key technologies, and gain experience with ECAD tools and test equipment.
* Develop skills with the guidance of an experienced supervisor and the wider engineering community.
What You’ll Bring – Entry Requirements
* A minimum of an upper Second-class Bachelor/Integrated Master’s degree, or higher (MSc/PhD).
* Subject should be Electronics Engineering, Engineering Science, Physics, or a related discipline.
* Demonstrated interest in Electronics/HW Engineering disciplines (e.g., RF, Microwave, power supply, FPGAs or high-speed digital circuitry).

Security Clearance
This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS).
