We are currently partnering with a market-leading Lloyd’s Insurer to recruit a Cloud Platform Engineering Lead. This role focuses on platform engineering with end-to-end ownership of the cloud platform across architecture, automation and security. The role remains hands-on while providing senior technical leadership across IT and partnering closely with Architecture, Security and IT Operations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Own cloud platform architecture (primarily Azure with some AWS) ensuring security, scalability, resilience and alignment to enterprise standards and landing zone principles
* Design and evolve shared platform capabilities including networking, identity, security, observability, backup and disaster recovery
* Treat the cloud platform as a product with clear standards, roadmaps and continuous improvement
* Remain hands-on building and evolving the platform using Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD and automation
* Develop reusable patterns, configurations and modules for consistent platform use
* Set and enforce engineering standards across cloud, automation and configuration management
* Embed security by design aligned to standards such as NIST, ISO and GDPR
* Own cloud security controls, policies and technical guardrails
* Ensure high availability, resilience, backup and disaster recovery readiness
* Act as a senior escalation point for cloud incidents and major outages
* Optimise platform performance, availability and cost efficiency
* Lead FinOps practices including cost management, budgeting and optimisation
* Drive monitoring, alerting and observability while contributing to long term cloud strategy
Skills & Experience:
* 8+ years of hands‑on experience designing and operating cloud environments, primarily Azure (AWS experience beneficial).
* Strong background in platform engineering, cloud architecture, and automation, not just infrastructure operations.
* Proven experience building and owning cloud platforms using Infrastructure‑as‑Code, including the lifecycle management of terraform assets
* Experience operating in regulated or security‑sensitive environments. Ideally the Insurance Market.
