Overview
An exciting opportunity for a urology specialist nurse practitioner to join the Bristol Urological Institute working at Weston General Hospital to provide patient support in the delivery of urology, diagnostics and treatments for benign urological conditions.
The post holder will have excellent communication skills with the ability to look after a variety of patients and their families along with supporting vulnerable patients. They will be an excellent team player working within a multi-disciplinary team. Clinical experience and familiarity within Urology and UK hospital systems is essential.
Responsibilities
* Act autonomously with evidence-based guidelines; be accountable for own practice including clinical assessment, history taking, determine a differential diagnosis using appropriate diagnostics and starting treatment and/or referring to another speciality or discharging of patients.
* Able to utilise specialist skills and knowledge in urology to implement and deliver independent nurse led clinics, including new referrals, formulating clinical decisions and often complex treatment plans to manage their urological health care condition.
* Work in collaboration with professionals to give appropriate advice; support and education in relation to all aspects of urology and related issues, to ensure patients and their families receive sound clinical research-based care.
* Become a pivotal member of the extended multi-disciplinary team, providing triage service for new patients and refer to consultant lead as required.
* Undertake urological diagnostics clinics, including procedures such as bladder instillations, flexible cystoscopy, catheter insertions, and prostate volume measurement.
* Be active in clinical audit and research to expand the service and ensure patients receive safe, high-quality care.

The Bristol Urological Institute (BUI) based at Southmead Hospital and Weston General Hospital, is the largest department in the southwest and one of the largest in the country.
The BUI offers care for urological conditions including cancer (bladder, kidney, prostate, penile and testis), stone disease of the kidney, urological continence services including mesh removal, benign prostate conditions, and andrology.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Registered General Nurse (NMC)
* MSc or willingness to work towards
* Relevant speciality post-registration qualification/courses
Desirable criteria
* Non-Medical Prescribing
* Recognised Teaching Qualification
* Functional Urology Specific Training
Experience
Essential criteria
* Relevant post-graduate experience in urology
* Experience in performing clinical urology tasks
* Relevant experience working independently in Urology
Desirable criteria
* Experience of undertaking research or audit projects
* Evidence of recent teaching and presenting experience
Knowledge/Skills/Experience
Essential criteria
* Leadership skills in service leadership or line management
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Experience in change management, policies and guidelines
* Clinical Governance experience and understanding
* Teaching and supervision skills
* Excellent time management, initiative and flexibility to meet the changing needs of the service
Desirable criteria
* Experience in delivering independent nurse led clinics in Urology
