About us
The Market Surgery is a busy seven-doctor practice serving over 10,000 patients in and around Aylsham, North Norfolk.
Located in purpose-built premises near Aylsham town centre, we aim to provide friendly, efficient primary care. Our facilities include ground-floor consulting rooms, a dispensary adjacent to reception, and a patient parking area.
We are part of the North and Waveney Integrated Care Service and serve as a training practice for GP Registrars and medical students.
Job responsibilities
You will work autonomously, applying sound clinical judgment within practice protocols, guidelines (local and national), PGDs, and PSDs. Your duties include:
1. Contraceptive checks, family planning, and sexual health advice, monitoring, and administration.
2. Cervical cytology screening, once adequately trained.
3. Performing investigations such as swabs, urinalysis, venepuncture, capillary blood testing, BP measurement, 24-hour BP monitoring, ECGs, and managing results with appropriate referrals.
4. Administering immunisations, including childhood, adult, travel, flu, and other programmes as directed.
5. Providing care within the Local and Direct Enhanced Service contracts, including D-dimer assays, health checks, near-patient testing, prostate and PSA testing, alcohol monitoring, post-operative care, minor surgery, and injury services.
6. Managing INR/Warfarin initiation and monitoring, including warfarin dosing and ensuring safe patient management with referrals as needed.
7. Assessing and treating wounds with appropriate dressings, monitoring progress, and acting accordingly.
8. Monitoring and managing chronic diseases such as Diabetes, CHD, Stroke, Hypertension, Mental Health, Learning Disabilities, PVD, CKD, and Rheumatoid Disease, with appropriate action or referrals for abnormal findings.
9. Developing skills in diagnosing and managing respiratory conditions like asthma, COPD, and interstitial lung disease, with a focus on innovation and admission avoidance.
10. Providing urgent care for breathing difficulties and chest pain, ensuring timely assistance.
11. Offering ear care and advice.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (Nursing and Midwifery Council)
* Postgraduate diploma or degree in Chronic Disease Management
* Family planning qualification
Experience
* Experience working in primary care
* Experience working autonomously
* Experience as a practice or community nurse
