Overview
Our Imaging Quality and Service Improvement (QSI) Lead works alongside the Radiology Team Leads and supervisors to facilitate the effective delivery of clinical governance through robust quality management within the departmental clinical governance framework. The role is responsible for assuring patient safety and that Imaging clinical practice aligns with evidence-based practice, clinical guidelines, professional recommendations, and applicable national directives. A key aspect is supporting patient experience and facilitating patient partnership in service evaluation and redesign. The post is awaiting Job Evaluation - predicted Band 7.
Responsibilities
* Lead service-wide quality initiatives in radiology imaging。
* Interpret audit data and engage with regulatory bodies such as CQC and QSI.
* Oversee document control and compliance systems.
* Chair meetings, train staff, and contribute to strategic planning and policy development across the service.
* Manage clinical governance activities within the imaging department, including incident management, improvement actions, and the departmental risk register.
About Us / Setting
We operate from three main hospitals: Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, with additional community premises. The Trust provides a range of general hospital services, urgent treatment, and planned care across Morecambe Bay.
Essential Qualifications
* Degree in healthcare or relevant subject (e.g. Radiography, Healthcare Management, Quality Improvement).
* Evidence of continued professional development relevant to quality improvement/governance.
Desirable Qualifications
* Formal training in QSI, governance, or quality improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, QI leadership).
* Project or change management training.
Experience
* Significant experience at a senior level within a Radiology or Imaging department.
* Experience leading or supporting QSI accreditation or other healthcare quality standards.
* Experience leading audits and analyzing service performance.
* Experience facilitating or chairing meetings with multidisciplinary staff.
* Experience in project management and delivering service improvements.
* Experience supervising, training, or mentoring staff.
* Desirable: experience liaising with external regulatory or accreditation bodies (e.g., CQC, UKAS).
Skills, Ability & Knowledge
* In-depth knowledge of the Quality Standard for Imaging (QSI) framework and accreditation process.
* Awareness of national healthcare quality standards, governance processes, and audit methodology.
* Understanding of radiology workflows and documentation processes.
* Knowledge of document control, outcome measures, and audit cycles.
* Understanding of clinical governance, risk assessment, and incident review processes.
* Strong leadership and influencing skills; excellent communication across all staff levels.
* Ability to organise, prioritise, and manage own workload and multiple projects.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and online systems; analytical and report-writing skills.
* Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism; ability to train and coach others in quality-related processes.
