The Thinker CIC is a Merseyside-based social enterprise dedicated to helping children and young people become more thoughtful, confident, and curious learners. We work with schools, teachers, and community partners to make philosophical enquiry accessible, engaging, and empowering for all learners.
About the Role
We are looking for enthusiastic Philosophy in Schools Facilitators to deliver inspiring, thought-provoking sessions in primary schools across Merseyside.
You’ll be trained to use Philosophy for Children (P4C) and other dialogue-based approaches to spark curiosity and help pupils explore philosophical questions in a fun, inclusive environment.
This is a sessional role, ideal for educators, creatives, or philosophy graduates who are passionate about empowering young people through conversation and critical thinking.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver high-quality philosophy sessions in primary schools using The Thinker’s enquiry-based model.
* Facilitate safe, inclusive discussions where pupils can think deeply and listen to each other.
* Adapt sessions for different ages and classroom contexts.
* Build positive relationships with school staff and uphold The Thinker’s values.
* Manage classroom dynamics confidently and maintain safeguarding best practice.
* Attend training, reflective sessions, and occasional team meetings.

Person Specification
Essential:
* Experience working with children in educational or youth settings.
* Background in philosophy, education, or a related field.
* Excellent communication and group facilitation skills.
* A genuine interest in philosophy, critical thinking, or creative learning.
* Reliability, flexibility, and confidence travelling across Merseyside.
* Commitment to equality, inclusion, and safeguarding.
Desirable:
* Experience with the Philosophy for Children (P4C) approach or similar methods.
* Teaching qualification (QTS or equivalent) – not essential.
* Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
Training and Support
All facilitators receive induction and ongoing training in The Thinker’s philosophy enquiry approach. We provide mentoring, reflective supervision, and opportunities to develop your facilitation practice as part of our growing community of practitioners.
