The Opportunity
We're recruiting a Senior Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Designer to deliver high-quality electrical and control system designs across multiple water treatment frameworks. You'll produce design deliverables for clean water and wastewater treatment projects, working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams and reporting to project lead engineers.
Contract Details: Outside IR35 | Competitive rate | Hybrid working | Ad-hoc site visits, FAT attendance and office visits as required | Long-term contract
MUST HAVE: Clean water and/or wastewater treatment experience. This is a senior design role for an experienced EC&I designer with proven background in water treatment design. You'll produce safe, practical and economic designs to professional standards, delivering drawing office deliverables that meet client specifications and regulatory requirements.
What You'll Be Doing
EC&I Design & Technical Delivery
1. Produce high-quality electrical, control and instrumentation design deliverables
2. Deliver designs to a high standard of professional competence and compliance
3. Produce drawing office deliverables including: Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)Cable Schedules and Material Take OffsBlock Control Diagrams (BCDs)Schematics and System Architecture DiagramsEquipment and Cable Routing LayoutsProcess & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
4. Ensure all designs are safe, practical, economic and meet client specifications
5. Work with CAD to produce accurate technical drawings
Quality Assurance & Compliance
6. Check drawings in accordance with company procedures
7. Ensure compliance with UK legislation and standards
8. Maintain design quality and accuracy
9. Support design reviews and technical approvals
Collaboration & Coordination
10. Liaise with other engineering disciplines (civil, mechanical, process)
11. Coordinate with project teams to ensure integrated delivery
12. Engage with clients and stakeholders on technical matters
13. Attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and site visits as required
About You
Essential Qualifications & Experience
14. MUST HAVE: Clean water and/or wastewater treatment experience -proven background designing electrical systems for water treatment facilities
15. ONC / OND / HNC / HND or equivalent engineering qualification
16. Minimum 10+ years' engineering experience in water sector or similar infrastructure environments
17. Proficient in CAD software - able to produce accurate technical drawings
18. Good knowledge of: Design working practices and installation requirements for water treatmentUK legislation and standards for electrical and control systemsWater treatment processes and plant layoutElectrical system design for process applications
19. Strong communication skills - confident engaging with colleagues and stakeholders

Desirable
24. Experience on major water treatment or wastewater projects
25. Knowledge of water treatment process requirements and their electrical/control implications
26. Experience with BIM and integrated design management
27. Familiarity with design for manufacturing and commissioning
28. Experience attending FATs and supporting commissioning
The Role in Practice
You'll work on a hybrid basis on various water treatment frameworks, reporting to project lead engineers. Ad-hoc office visits, site visits and Factory Acceptance Test attendance will be required as projects progress.
This is hands-on technical design work on water treatment projects. You'll be producing detailed electrical and control system designs, checking work for compliance, and liaising across disciplines to ensure integrated delivery. Your CAD proficiency, design accuracy and water treatment knowledge directly impact how effectively designs support manufacturing and commissioning.
