Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Locum Consultant in Breast Surgery to join our forward-thinking breast multidisciplinary team at Worthing Hospital. This is an opportunity to support and deliver high-quality oncoplastic breast care within a busy and well-established NHS breast unit.
Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register for General Surgery with a subspecialty interest in breast surgery. This locum post is ideal for consultants looking for flexible working patterns, including full-time or part-time sessions, to support ongoing cancer and benign breast pathways.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct new patient assessments, follow-up clinics, and triple assessment one-stop clinics
Provide breaking bad news consultations with appropriate support from Breast Care Nurses and MDT colleagues
Participate in screening and symptomatic breast services
Attend and contribute to weekly Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings
Surgical Duties
Perform oncological breast surgery, including wide local excisions, mastectomies, and sentinel lymph node biopsies
Operate on benign breast disease cases as appropriate
Collaborate with the oncoplastic and plastic surgery teams for reconstructive options
Day-case and inpatient operating lists with appropriate anaesthetic and nursing support

Requirement
GMC Registration Full GMC registration with inclusion on the Specialist Register in General Surgery (Breast subspecialty)
Clinical Experience Independent practice in breast diagnostics, cancer surgery, and benign breast conditions
Outpatient Skills Skilled in patient counselling, breaking bad news, and managing breast screening outcomes
Teamworking Proven ability to work within a multidisciplinary framework including radiology, pathology, oncology, and CNS teams
Governance Participation in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement expected
About the Unit
High-volume breast unit with access to digital mammography, stereotactic biopsies, and MRI
Dedicated team of Breast Care Nurses and full MDT support
Integrated surgical planning with Chichester and Brighton sites
Excellent support for locums, with admin and IT access from day one

Flexible sessional working available (e.g. 8 PA or less, negotiable)
