The Principal Plant Technical Authority acts as the ultimate engineering custodian for primary system integrity, ensuring all substation designs are safe, compliant, buildable, operable, and maintainable, while fully meeting client, regulatory, and organisational standardsKey ResponsibilitieProvide independent verification and approval of high-voltage substation primary plant designs, including AIS/GIS layouts, switchgear, transformers, and associated plant systemsDefine and enforce engineering standards, technical requirements, and design governance across all projectsLead design assurance reviews and establish key design hold points for formal technical sign-off.Identify, challenge, and resolve critical technical risks, design non-conformances, and interface issues across disciplines.Ensure full alignment of designs with construction methodology, operational requirements, maintenance access, and lifecycle performanceAct as the highest-level technical escalation point for primary plant engineering decisions within the organisationProvide expert guidance and mentoring to senior and lead engineers across the businessSupport continuous improvement of design processes, technical standards, and engineering quality frameworksYour profile10+ years in high-voltage substation engineeringProven background in primary plant / substation designExperience across AIS and GIS substationsExposure to 132kV–400kV+ transmission systemsTrack record in major utility or T&D projects (EPC or OEM)Kieron Taylor-ThorpeRecruitment Consultant+44 161 240 3815kieron.taylor-thorpe@hunterphilips.com
