Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Lead Engineer Body Structures to be based at our customers site in Gaydon. Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery. The Role: As a Lead Engineer for Body Structures, you will be responsible for the design, development, and delivery of key structural components that form the backbone of the vehicle. This includes floor systems, pillars, roof structures, crossmembers, and load-bearing assemblies. Youll lead cross-functional teams to ensure these systems meet performance, safety, weight, and manufacturability targets across multiple vehicle programs. Area of Responsibility Technical Leadership: Own the engineering development of body-in-white (BIW) structural components from concept through production. Ensure integration with adjacent systems including closures, chassis, powertrain, and safety modules. Design & Validation: Lead CAD development, CAE analysis, and physical validation of structural systems. Ensure compliance with crashworthiness, durability, NVH, and stiffness requirements. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Vehicle Architecture, Manufacturing, CAE, Materials, and Safety teams. Support virtual builds, prototype builds, and launch activities across global sites. Supplier Engagement: Manage technical discussions with Tier 1 suppliers, ensuring alignment on materials, tooling, and delivery. Review and approve DFMEAs, DVPs, and PPAP documentation. Innovation & Sustainability: Drive adoption of lightweight materials (e.g., aluminum, UHSS, composites) and advanced joining techniques. Champion sustainable design practices and recyclability of structural components. Quality & Issue Resolution: Lead root cause analysis and resolution of structural issues during development and post-launch. Support warranty investigations and continuous improvement initiatives. Knowledge / Experience Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related discipline. Strong experience in automotive body engineering, with a focus on structural systems. Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., CATIA V5), PLM systems (e.g., Teamcenter), and CAE validation. Strong understanding of crash safety, joining technologies, and material behavior. Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills. Preferred Attributes Experience with electric vehicle platforms and battery structural integration. Familiarity with global crash regulations and homologation standards. Knowledge of advanced manufacturing processes (e.g., hot stamping, laser welding). Passion for innovation, structural integrity, and vehicle safety.
