An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Waste Planning team as a Sewerage Planning Engineer, where you will play a pivotal role as the asset owner for the wastewater network. This position is central to our wastewater capital investment programme, ensuring that all delivery activities align with:
* Strategic objectives for long-term infrastructure resilience
* Regulatory standards set by Ofwat and other governing bodies
* Customer expectations for service quality and environmental stewardship
What you'll do
1. Sewerage investment plan: contribute to shaping a five-year plan that aligns with long-term goals and regulatory requirements.
2. Cost-benefit focus: ensure investments are financially sound and technically justified.
3. Ofwat submissions: assist in preparing regulatory documentation and liaising with auditors.
4. Infiltration programmes: help manage programmes aimed at reducing groundwater infiltration.
5. Project review meetings: participate in adjudicating design reviews to balance compliance, cost, and customer service.
6. Design standards compliance: review project designs to ensure they meet internal standards and affordability criteria.
7. Internal teams: collaborate closely with Delivery, Operations, and Development teams.
8. External stakeholders: engage with councils, the Environment Agency, and other authorities to align on flood risk and infrastructure planning.
9. Customer liaison: communicate plans and risks to residents and parish councils.
10. Brief writing: draft clear, value-driven briefs for technical solutions.
11. Plan development: contribute to infiltration reduction plans and Drainage and Wastewater Management Plans (DWMPs).
12. Analytical thinking: crucial for hydraulic modelling, infiltration analysis, and investment planning.
13. Communication skills: influential verbal and written skills needed for stakeholder engagement and reporting.
14. Cross-functional collaboration: ability to work across Delivery, Operations, Development, and external agencies.
15. Decision-making: firm, consistent choices required during project reviews and technical adjudication.
16. Project management: juggling multiple schemes and programmes simultaneously.
17. Customer engagement: liaising with residents, councils, and public forums to explain plans and risks.
18. A degree: must be in a relevant field (not strictly engineering), showing flexibility in academic background.
19. Sewerage system design: understanding of layout, capacity, and compliance.
20. Hydraulic modelling: familiarity with tools like InfoWorks or similar.
21. Geospatial tools: GIS platforms for mapping and visualisation (e.g., ArcGIS or QGIS).
22. Office software: proficiency in Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word for data analysis and reporting.
23. Initiative and independence: the ability to self-direct with minimal supervision.
24. Relationship building: strong interpersonal skills to foster trust across teams and with external bodies.
25. Public-facing confidence: comfortable presenting to parish councils and engaging with residents.
