This is a multi-year contract for a UK nuclear infrastructure programme. The role is part‑time telework requiring at least three days of in‑person attendance per week at the assigned office or project.

The Customer – Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) supports the UK Government’s nuclear defence strategy and the Continuous at Sea Deterrent. AWE uses nuclear know‑how and technical expertise to provide innovative solutions supporting the UK’s counterterrorism and nuclear threat reduction activities.
Project Summary
Bechtel is collaborating with AWE to deliver the preliminary design for the facilities within the Future Materials Campus. The project is at the conceptual design phases and involves a multi‑billion‑pound investment in nuclear and non‑nuclear facilities.
Job Summary
This position is for an Environmental and Sustainability Specialist who will support the Engineering Delivery Manager as the environmental representative for engineering activities. The specialist will assist in design efforts, prepare technical documents, execute schedule activities, perform quality checks, and help ensure overall project delivery. The role includes preparing reports, studies, defining environmental criteria, integrating environmental requirements, participating in design reviews, and facilitating resolution of reviewer comments.
Major Responsibilities
* Execute environmental and sustainability deliverables according to requirements and design criteria.
* Facilitate execution of the environmental component of an ESH program, including technical and administrative aspects.
* Develop studies on environmental impacts and sustainability of the proposed design/construction process.
* Prepare, coordinate, and review designs, studies, reports, and proposals.
* Coordinate design development with other engineering disciplines while managing workload and meeting schedule due dates.
* Participate in safety reviews (HAZID, HAZOP) and review compliance with applicable safety and quality standards.
* Review deliverables from other disciplines and suppliers to ensure design intent is incorporated.
* Interpret and integrate environmental requirements in design, planning documents, risk assessment, and program execution.
* Support informal studies and technical briefings with customers, suppliers, and other departments.
Education and Experience Requirements
* Recognized bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, field biology, or natural resources from an accredited institution.
* At least 8 years of relevant experience.
* Chartership with the Chartered Institute of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) or similar.
Required Knowledge and Skills
* Knowledge of environmental management, monitoring programs, principles, and methodologies.
* Knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting processes of applicable agencies.
* Familiarity with ISO 14001 principles and environmental monitoring and reporting procedures.
* Ability to compile monitoring data, interpret results, and prepare compliance reports or corrective action plans.
* Attention to detail and critical thinking skills.
* Organisational skills and strong problem‑solving ability.
* Relevant industrial experience; general nuclear experience is a plus.
* Ability to obtain an SC Clearance for access to the AWE site.
Other
* The role is based primarily at Aldermaston UK, with possible travel to Bechtel’s London office. Flexibility includes three days per week at the project site and two days working from home or the Bechtel office.
* The position is open to United Kingdom (UK) nationals only.
