Main duties of the job The purpose of the post is to enable the successful candidate to gain further experience in Hip, Knee and Sarcoma Surgery. The post holder will gain clinical and operative skills under the direct supervision of the consultants within the Hip, Knee and Sarcoma Teams. The post holder will conduct clinics, operating lists, ward rounds and assist with clinical management with the consultants and on behalf of the consultants during their absence. Fellowships will broadly encompass one of four areas during each six month period: Revision arthroplasty, soft tissue knee surgery, sarcoma surgery or hip arthroscopy. Fellowships commence on the first Monday of March and September, the applicants preferred start month and year should be included in the supplementary information section. Person Specification Qualifications Essential • Full current GMC Registration with licence to practice • MB BS or equivalent medical qualifications • FRCS (T&O) or equivalent • Post CCT or equivalent by time of appointment • Satisfactory career progression • ALS Trained - Valid certificate on appointment • Intention to pursue hip, knee or sarcoma surgery as a specialist career Desirable • Higher degree (PhD/D Phil, MD, MBA) • BSc, MSc, MEd or other postgraduate qualification • Previous hip, knee or sarcoma fellowship Experience Essential • Expected to achieve 18 months hip and knee surgery during specialist training • Demonstrates understanding of the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management and evidence-based practice. • Understanding of research principles methodology and ethics, with potential to contribute to research • Sufficient leadership, organisational, communication, professional and personal skills to effectively undertake the role in a large teaching hospital • Ability to organise oneself, to manage time and tasks and prioritise clinical needs within limitations of experience • Sound note keeping skills • Computing skills: ability to use word processor, spreadsheet, presentation software, web browser and electronic patient record software • Validated logbook documentation of surgical exposure to date • Good personal and interpersonal skills • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team • Good spoken and written English.
