Learning Disability Support Worker (Grade 6 level 1) – Adult Services
Join to apply for the Learning Disability Support Worker (Grade 6 level 1) – Adult Services role at City of York Council. We are looking for caring, compassionate and hands‑on people to join our team at 77 Flaxman Ave, Short Break Service for adults with a Learning/Physical Disability and/or Autism. Flaxman Avenue is a six‑bedded homely environment where our customers can come for a short stay tailored to meet their needs. Our aim is to give the people we support as much control over their own lives as possible. This is a responsible role which is varied and extremely rewarding. You will need to have good organisational skills, be able to work as part of a team and be able to use your own initiative. The post will include split shifts, weekend work and covering sleep‑ins when needed.
Responsibilities
* Personal care tasks to meet individual care needs
* Managing finances, if required
* Supporting with medication
* Moving and positioning
* Supporting wheelchair users
* Shopping, outings, and socialising if required
* Supporting service users with complex health‑care needs
* Meal prep and supporting people to eat their meals if required
* Cleaning and laundry
Working conditions and enhancements
* Flexible split shifts and weekend work – 1 in 3 weekends off
* Shift work enhancements: 0.68p each hour worked on top of salary
* Weekend work: 10% of hourly rate
* Evening work (7 pm onwards): 10% of hourly rate
* Overtime: £4.22 per hour on top of salary
Skills & Experience
Working with adults who have a Learning Disability and/or Autism, including those who may display challenging behaviours, is essential. Experience of caring for a family member or professionally is desirable but not mandatory. Care Certificate training will be provided and there is an opportunity to work towards Level 2/3 qualification in care. Candidates must be flexible and able to work across other Learning Disability services, building based. Compassion, integrity and the ability to treat people with dignity and respect are key.
Health & Safety
Applicants must demonstrate competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public in spoken English (CEFR level C2). A full Disclosure and Barring Service check is required.
