Overview
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Approved Electrician to join our growing engineering team. Our skilled engineers work on projects aligned with their core and specialist skills and may acquire elements of other skills to work flexibly across trades. Suitable training and up-skilling may be provided to achieve competency and perform the responsibilities described.
Working hours: core hours are 08:00 to 17:00, with some flexibility depending on individual circumstances.
Responsibilities
* To be appointed as Authorised Person for electrical works on Mitie and client systems.
* Task Supervisor.
* Line management of Engineering operatives, including induction, pre- and post-job briefing, technical advice and support, health and safety and performance management.
* Planned and reactive maintenance of various client buildings: inspection and testing, emergency light testing, PAT testing, RCD testing, installation of new equipment or replacement/repair of lamps, sockets, etc.
* Work independently and as part of a team; assist other trades when required.
* Deal with clients and suppliers using good written and verbal communication skills.
* Part of the on-call rota and manage an effective emergency call-out service for electrical operatives, ensuring out-of-hours support is arranged.
* Carry out monthly toolbox talks; support audits, stock takes and COSHH and risk assessment renewals.
* Support sourcing of materials and subcontractors as required; monitor PIU data monthly.
* Support the engineering team with team meetings and 1:1s; provide reactive and planned proactive maintenance (PPM) as per project requirements to all operational assets.
* Provide a multi-skilled maintenance service covering electrical, mechanical and building fabric disciplines; carry out modifications and installations as required.
* Liaise with contractors or external suppliers, clearly communicating technical issues; ensure work meets high standards and current legal requirements, policies and procedures.
* Maximise equipment availability through continuous improvement, optimum performance, efficiency gains and cost reductions.
* Maintain equipment with strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills; report defects to the shift supervisor promptly.
* Maintain, repair and calibrate electrical, mechanical and instrumentation plant to optimise reliability and maintainability.
* Ensure KPIs/SLA are met; take ownership of tools and equipment and report defects immediately.
* Provide technical support to projects and initiatives; ensure safe and diligent completion of own work and subordinates’ work; provide feedback on issues arising during work activities.
* Complete required paperwork and reports accurately and on time; undertake required training to maintain competence; carry out other duties as directed by the Contract Manager or Management Team.
* Flexibility in work hours to cover holidays and sickness; participate in standby rota for emergency calls outside normal hours.
* Familiarise yourself with business continuity plans and health, safety and environmental policies; complete RAMS and permits; provide excellent customer service and timely progress updates to occupants.
Health & Safety
* Follow group and company policies and procedures at all times; report any deficiencies in systems or equipment that may risk service delivery, health and safety, or the environment.
* Use all work equipment and PPE properly; report issues or training needs to your line manager or via the divisional incident reporting system.
* Take personal responsibility for Health & Safety matters; review RAMs from subcontractors; escort contractors where DBS is not held.
What we are looking for – Experience and Qualifications
* Experience of working within installations; good understanding of current Health & Safety legislation and its application.
* Ability to prioritise own workload and delegate to direct reports; flexible approach to work and hours; proactive and self-motivated.
* Good knowledge of building statutory compliance; full UK driving licence; ability to record work accurately on worksheets and computer systems.
* Good communication, teamwork, professional appearance in uniform/PPE, and commitment to safe working practices.
* Responsible for self and others to maintain a safe working environment and HSE management in line with our Quality Management System.
* Provide excellent customer service and ability to complete tasks right first time within deadlines.
Specialist Qualifications (Gas / ACV / Electrical / Plumbing)
* Gas: NVQ Level 3 in Heating/Ventilation/Maintenance; COCN1 or CODNCO1 (domestic to commercial changeover) – Essential; CORT1, TPCP1A, CIGA1, CDGA1, ICPN1 – Desirable.
* AC/HVAC: NVQ Level 3 in Air Conditioning/Maintenance – Essential; F Gas Qualification – Essential.
* Electrical: NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or Apprenticeship – Essential; 18th Edition – Essential; 2391-52 Testing and Inspection – Essential.
* Plumbing: NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing – Essential.
