Income & Recovery Officer (Adult Social Care) – Temporary

Reading (Hybrid Working) Full-Time Immediate Start – 4 Month Contract £14.59 PAYE / £18.00 Umbrella

About the Role

We are recruiting for an experienced Income & Recovery Officer to join a Reading-based Local Authority on a 4-month temporary assignment within the Client Finances team.

This role focuses on Adult Social Care income collection and recovery, delivering a high-quality, customer-focused service while supporting residents to manage their accounts and access financial support.

Working Arrangements

* Hybrid role – primarily home-based
* Attendance required at Civic Offices, Reading for meetings and appointments

Key Responsibilities

* Provide a high-quality customer service across multiple channels (face-to-face, telephone, email and digital)
* Support residents to understand their accounts and access appropriate advice, including:
o Welfare benefits
o Financial support
o Digital inclusion services
* Manage and progress recovery of unpaid Adult Social Care invoices
* Negotiate and agree realistic and affordable repayment arrangements
* Prepare cases for legal action where necessary, in line with legislation and council policy
* Support billing and invoicing processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
* Assist with payment collection activities, including Direct Debit administration
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date records on council systems
* Handle sensitive information in accordance with data protection and information governance requirements

Candidate Requirements

* Previous experience in income recovery, debt collection, or revenues within a local authority setting
* Experience working with Adult Social Care finance (highly desirable)
* Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and empathetically
* Experience managing casework and recovery processes end-to-end
* Good understanding of welfare benefits and financial support services (desirable)
* Ability to handle sensitive situations professionally and confidentially
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
* Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
