Internal Communications Officer
This role is part of the People Team and focuses on strengthening colleague communication, engagement, and employee voice across 280+ branches. The role is hands‑on, requiring a strong communicator and storyteller who works collaboratively, spends time in the business, and creates meaningful, inclusive content.

Key Responsibilities
* Own operational management of Viva Engage, acting as primary administrator and content lead for the All Company community.
* Create and curate engaging internal communications content and schedules, including business updates, colleague stories, wellbeing and inclusion campaigns, charity activity, and key announcements.
* Take a journalistic approach to identifying stories across the business, attending events, and visiting branches to gather insight.
* Work closely with Marketing, the in‑house magazine editor, and operational teams to ensure consistent, high‑quality, aligned internal communications.
* Maintain clear guidance, standards, and governance for effective use of Viva Engage, including moderation and administration.
* Promote internal communications channels through training, awareness sessions, and coaching for colleagues and managers.
* Monitor engagement and usage data, providing insight, feedback, and recommendations to improve communication effectiveness.
* Work with the Recruitment Team to maintain content on recruitment platforms and the careers page, highlighting vacancies in the business.
Working Arrangements
25 hours per week over four/five days, flexibly arranged.
* Flexible approach to working hours.
* Regular travel to branches and suppliers, with occasional overnight stays.
* Full driving licence desirable due to travel requirements.
Essential Qualifications
* Experience in a communications‑focused role (marketing, people, or similar) with a key focus on creating content and communications.
* A genuine passion for communication, storytelling, and colleague engagement.
* Friendly, approachable, reliable, and self‑motivated.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
* Confidence engaging a wide range of stakeholders and audiences, leading conversations.
* Proficient analysis of engagement data and using insight to shape activity.
* Competence with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) to an intermediate level.
Desirable Qualifications
* Experience using Viva Engage or similar internal social platforms.
* Understanding of retail environments and retail colleague communication.
* Photography, video editing, or graphic design skills (e.g., Canva or Adobe tools).
