Locum Consultant Radiologist

We are looking for a Locum Consultant Radiologist for a full‑time post for a general radiologist with an interest in Musculoskeletal Imaging.
The post will be based at the West Middlesex site. Depending on the needs of the department, there will be scope for flexible working from the Chelsea & Westminster site for a limited number of sessions per week if required.
The new appointee will participate in the diagnostic on‑call rota covering the WM site (approximately 1 in 16).
The proposed job plan may change to allow for future extended 7‑day service requirements and provision of services across the entire Trust.
Successful candidates will have access to secretarial/administrator support from the Imaging Department administrative/PA team, and dedicated working office space within the radiology department.
Main duties of the job
The 10 PA contract comprises 8.5 DCC sessions and up to 1.5 SPA sessions.
The job plan will be based on a 4‑day week and includes sessions dedicated to general cross‑sectional and hot CT reporting. It is essential to be able to report body CT and general MRI. There will also be sessions dedicated to reporting MSK MRI, performing MSK ultrasound, and US‑guided injections. The successful candidate will also be expected to partake in the rheumatology, orthopaedic and sarcoma MDTs (shared rota with other MSK consultants). It is desirable to be able to perform CT‑guided and US‑guided biopsies.
Applicants are expected to be on the Specialist register of the GMC, or within 6 months of CCT, and to be a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists.
The successful candidate is expected to have a starting date within 3 months of interview.

* Ensure mandatory training is up to date as per Trust policy.
* Participate in continuing professional development to keep skills and knowledge current. Apply to the study leave budget for associated expenses, and undertake non‑clinical training as directed by management (e.g., Leadership Training).
Performance Management
* Work with medical, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance.
* Financial management: identify, implement and achieve cost‑improvement programmes; participate in cost‑effectiveness initiatives.
* Operational efficiency: increase day‑case rates, manage waiting list activity and demand.
Medical Staff Management and Accountability
* Adhere to Trust / department guidelines on leave, including requesting and reporting absence, and professional and study leave.
* Ensure staff under your responsibility follow the same guidelines.
* Participate in the recruitment and induction of junior medical staff as delegated by the Clinical Director / Service Lead.

* Participate fully in regular departmental activities, including meetings and team‑building activities.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration
* Relevant CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by PMET/GMC by date if Advisory Appointments Committee)
* Entry on GMC Specialist Register OR eligible within 6 months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee
* Good understanding of and adherence to Good Medical Practice principles set out by the General Medical Council
* Frcr (Achievement of Fellowship of Royal College of Radiologists)
* Experience in teaching medical trainees and other NHS professionals
* Higher Degree
* Additional related qualifications (e.g. BSc, BA)
* Level 3 Safeguarding Children as per inter‑college document
* Management Training
* Understanding of business planning and hospital contracting
Experience
* Understanding of Clinical Governance and Audit
* Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience
* Wide training in general, cross‑sectional radiology and ultrasound
* Relevant sub‑specialty training
* Experience in general ultrasound, MRI reporting, interventional procedures (e.g., CT‑guided and US‑guided biopsies)
* Understanding of audit and Clinical Governance and quality control in radiology
* Experience of radiology service delivery within an NHS department
* Participation in a system of annual appraisal
* Participation in a recognised continuing medical education scheme
* Experience in interpretation of thoracic, soft‑tissue and paediatric imaging
