As a Health and Safety Advisor, you will support the delivery of the Council Plan by providing expert advice and guidance on health and safety matters. You will help shape and implement our health and safety strategy, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice across all services. You’ll be part of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Team, working with internal and external stakeholders to maintain a safe and compliant environment.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert health and safety advice and guidance to support the Council Plan and comply with legislation and best practice across all services.
* Shape and implement the health and safety strategy; contribute to the development of policies and procedures.
* Support risk assessments, incident investigations, and the recommendation of appropriate control measures.
* Deliver training sessions, briefings, and toolbox talks; audit facilities for compliance.
* Conduct on-site inspections and represent the Council in stakeholder forums as required.
* Collaborate with schools, partner organisations, and internal teams to maintain a safe working environment.
Qualifications
* NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 5 in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent).
* Ideally, membership of IOSH (Tech IOSH, Grad IOSH) or CMIOSH.
* Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, codes of practice, and risk management.
* Excellent communication, analytical, and organisational skills; ability to deliver technical advice clearly and collaboratively.
