General haulage and traffic office experience, preferably gained in the Distribution / Logistics sector
Specific Key Accountabilities
* Provide a leadership role for the Owens Group Depot.
* Allocating and managing staff resources according to changing needs within the Traffic Department
* Ensure the delegation, co-ordination, supervision of the business is carried out efficiently. This involves liaising with the Planning team in Llanelli so that planning and scheduling of vehicles, trailers and drivers is operational 24/7.
* Keep accurate records and ensure systems are up-dated by producing regular reports and planning for future capacity requirements.
* To Manage fleet operations, maximising output, cost efficiency and customer satisfaction
* To provide functional hands-on management and legislative compliance of all drivers and also to provide functional (or if appropriate, line) management of transport planners.
* Full responsibility of driver holidays and effective resource planning to maintain 100% truck utilisation
* Responsible for adherence to Drivers Hours Regulations (Tachographs) in accordance with the Working Time Directive (WTD)
* Monitor, manage and improve on time delivery performance of regional fleet ensuring high standards of customer service at all times
* Ensuring Health & Safety procedures are implemented and enforced at the facility. Develop and improve a safe working environment that pro-actively reduces accidents. Carry out accident investigations in a timely manner.
* Carry out accident investigations and personal injury insurance claims where necessary within the operation
* Ensure compliance of current transport legislation is adhered to at all time. This includes talking to the driver community to ensure infringements reviews are carried out on time and that drivers understand the implications as to why they need to comply with regulations
* Liaising with the Head Office Accounts, Invoicing, Payroll and HR Departments as required
* Setting into place and executing improvement plans
* Inspiring and leading a team in a high-pressure environment, with a 'Can Do' attitude
* Dealing with customer complaints
* Carrying out disciplinary and grievance meetings in line with Company procedures and the ACAS Code
* Produce a weekly report on activities undertaken i.e., Health & Safety/Compliance issues
* Carry out other duties as directed
