Role Overview
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is a leading NHS provider in Scotland, delivering acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to over 1.15 million people.
Working pattern and location
Location: Royal Alexandra Hospital, Permanent contract, Full‑time 36 hours per week, Shift pattern days, nights and weekends.
Key responsibilities
* Assist with nursing care under the supervision of a trained nurse, including reception, admission, transfer and discharge of the patient.
* Ensure patients receive fluid and nutritional intake as prescribed.
* Observe and report any change in the patient’s condition to the nurse in charge.
* Assist patients unable to self‑care with personal hygiene and dressing, adhering to manual handling procedures.
* Carry out and assist with minor investigatory procedures (urinalysis, faecal occult blood testing and urine collections).
* Participate in the accurate completion of patient documentation (fluid charts, Waterlow charts, files).
* Clean and tidy clinical areas, equipment and storage cupboards, excluding controlled drug cupboards, and report defects.
* Maintain stock of central and clinical supplies, excluding medicines.
* Safeguard patient personal belongings in line with organisational policy.
* Comply with Health and Safety legislation and policies (COSHH, fire, infection control and manual handling).
Qualifications and experience
* No formal qualification required.
* Good standard of education.
* Good verbal communication.
* Good team worker.
* Basic IT skills advantageous, but not necessary.
