As a Graduate Teaching Assistant specialising in Early Years, you will play a crucial role in supporting the academic development of students on degree level programmes within this subject area, as well as students aspiring to join Childcare degree programmes in the future.
Your primary responsibilities will be to assist and collaborate with the teaching staff in delivering effective and engaging learning experiences. Your role will involve working closely with both lecturers and students, providing support though 1-1 and group working. You will also have the opportunity to apply your knowledge and expertise in Early Years to enhance students' understanding, skills, and practical competence in this subject area.
In addition, you will be responsible for promoting the higher technical education offer of the curriculum area both internally and externally. This includes progression events, providing Information, Advice, and Guidance (IAG) to prospective students, and establishing collaborative partnerships with local schools and sixth forms to help raise the profile of Higher Technical Education and our HTQ offer.
Key Tasks:
* Work in the classroom and online environment to support student progress and achievement on their higher education programme
* Direction by teaching team on deployment within sessions
* Targeted work with individual learner and small groups
* Feedback to teachers on progress and concerns
* Referral to support teams where required
* Work with small group to develop their academic resilience and key skills
* Understanding barriers to individual student progress and setting of informal action plans
* Discussion with teaching and support teams on individual student’s and provision of ongoing support
* Ongoing assessment of student progress and feedback
* Support the transition of students into an HE environment and encourage the development of independent learning skills
* Helping students develop the tools necessary to succeed
* Develop strong professional relationship with students in the provision giving them a sense of belonging within the HE environment
* Support students in overcoming any practical barriers to their progress, i.e. basic literacy support
* To work with teaching teams and support teams to develop a proactive approach to supporting ‘at risk’ learners
* Regular discussion with team around students of concern
* Collaboration where necessary with DST, Pastoral and LEC
* To work with relevant internal entities to develop research and study skills support to improve learner utilisation of College resources across the campuses
* Lead some digital and some sensory garden sessions
* To develop a range of workshops that develop academic skills in diverse curriculum areas
* To liaise with cross-college teams to secure good participation rates
* To monitor engagement rates and impact in securing improved achievement rates and marks profiles
