An exciting opportunity for a Consultant in Infection / Consultant Clinical Scientist - Microbiology to join the Northern Care Alliance Infection Sciences team and provide additional support for Infection services at Salford Royal Hospital.
The on-call rota is 1 in 12 covering the NCA, The Christie and Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trusts.
The NCA has Infection Science laboratories at Salford and Oldham providing services in medical microbiology and virology to the above locations.
Responsible, with colleagues, for providing services in clinical microbiology and infection prevention and control across the NCA, including some duties based at The Royal Oldham Hospital.
A versatile and enthusiastic medical microbiologist, you will be either fully qualified and registered with the GMC or within 6 months of obtaining a CCT in medical microbiology (or medical microbiology and infectious diseases).
You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to demonstrate the ability to influence others in senior clinical and management roles, be responsible for implementation of innovation and service development and have experience of writing protocols and guidelines.

Main duties of the job
The main purpose of the job is to provide a clinical infection service to Salford.
The post holder will complement and develop existing services through the provision of specialist knowledge and expertise in Clinical Microbiology.
An initial and then annual review of duties will take place with the Clinical Director of Infection Sciences as part of the job planning process. During the initial job planning meeting, a detailed breakdown of direct clinical care and supporting activities will be agreed. The precise arrangements will depend on the needs of the service, the interests of the individual and agreement with colleagues: flexibility is expected and there will be some duties across the Northern Care Alliance.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Primary medical qualification (eg. MBChB) or PhD in Microbiology for Consultant Clinical Scientists
* The appointee will hold the FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification
* Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
* MRCP or evidence of equivalent qualification.
* A higher degree e.g. MD/PhD is desirable
* Completed HSST.
Registration
* Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Centre (GMC), (or eligible for registration within six months of interview)
* HCPC registered Consultant Clinical Scientist in Microbiology.
Knowledge
* Broad knowledge of Microbiology and clinical expertise in Infection Control.
* Clinical Governance understanding
* Ability to work well within a team
* Experience in Clinical Virology, Infectious Diseases or related disciplines
* Management training or qualification and/or evidence of leadership in the development of clinical services
Skills
* Organisational and leadership skills
* Good verbal and written communication skills.

£109,725 to £145,478 a year per annum (dependent on experience)
