Job Overview
We are looking for an experienced Manager (based in Wales) overseeing Team Leaders and operational staff within Wales & South England, who provide security response and guarding to sites 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.
This role is a fantastic opportunity to have real influence within Mitie security operations within London.
The Area Manager position is fixed Monday to Friday with occasional weekend on‑call duties, and may also require out‑of‑hours visits, weekend on‑call shifts on a rota basis, and occasional travel to other sites nationally.
Contractual working hours are 45 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
Take command and control of major/critical incidents at operational or tactical level; manage and develop the team; create and implement operational and emergency procedures; serve as the key interface between security and other internal/external teams and partners.
* Operate and continually develop the security staff within the region.
* Be the first management point of contact for any security incidents.
* Manage security incidents at Operational (Bronze) or Tactical (Silver) level.
* Ensure that KPIs are met and aligned with client expectations.
* Maintain current and up‑to‑date procedures for the security staff.
* Manage shift patterns, authorise and plan staff leave, and manage sickness absence.
* Conduct performance development reviews and team meetings.
* Recruit and retain security staff.
* Assist with the creation and development of contingency and emergency planning and procedures for all operational sites.
* Assist with the development and implementation of new systems on behalf of the client and organise in‑house workshops to embed them.
* Interface with partner teams to ensure issues are tracked and resolved.
* Monitor and analyse all relevant reports and briefing documents.
* Complete and distribute management reports to senior leadership and the client.
* Proactively suggest continuous improvement opportunities.
* Maintain records of accidents, incidents or near‑misses, and keep an accurate log of site restrictions and hazard identification.
* Work with the security operations team to keep online site inductions, site safety documentation and operational safety plans up‑to‑date.
* Contribute to ensuring operations and maintenance activities are carried out to industry best practice and regulatory Health, Safety and Environment standards.
* Carry out other reasonable tasks as directed by senior leadership.
* Hold a valid SIA Security Licence (SIA Door Supervisor).
Qualifications
* Essential: Previous experience line‑managing a team.
* Essential: Hold a valid SIA Security Licence.
* Essential: Clear and confident communicator, both verbally and in writing.
* Essential: Willingness to work shift work and non‑routine hours, including weekends.
* Essential: Able to work independently and as part of a team.
* Essential: Previous knowledge/experience of Incident Management within an operational environment.
* Desirable: Health and Safety qualification (e.g. IOSH Managing Safely) or experience.
* Desirable: Proven ability to quickly learn and adhere to new processes and procedures.
* Desirable: Experience in delivery of training.
* Desirable: Contributes to a positive team environment.
* Desirable: Drive, enthusiasm and self‑motivation.
* Desirable: Willingness to undertake continuous personal development.
