About the Team
This role sits within Bath and North East Somerset Council's newly formed Adult Social Care Operations and Safeguarding structures. The team is committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred services that protect and empower vulnerable adults. Working closely with the B&NES Community Safety & Safeguarding Partnership (BCSSP), the team ensures statutory responsibilities are met and safeguarding practices are embedded across all services.
Job Role
We are seeking a registered Social Worker and experienced Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to lead and develop our strategic AMHP and Safeguarding Assurance service. This senior leadership role combines strategic oversight with operational delivery, ensuring excellence in safeguarding and mental health practice.
* Leading the development and implementation of AMHP and safeguarding strategies aligned with national and local priorities.
* Overseeing quality assurance processes to monitor and improve safeguarding and AMHP services.
* Managing the AMHP Team Manager and supporting succession planning, including trainee recruitment and development.
* Directly managing Safeguarding Adults Managers and Independent Chairs, ensuring expert guidance and thematic work across partnerships.
* Embedding Making Safeguarding Personal principles throughout all safeguarding interventions.
* Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to promote a culture of vigilance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
* Providing assurance to the BCSSP on community safety and adult social care delivery, including AMHP duties.
Candidate Requirements
You will be a qualified Social Worker and Approved Mental Health Professional, with a strong background in adult safeguarding and mental health services. You should bring strategic insight, leadership experience, and a commitment to best practice. Essential qualities include:
* Proven experience in managing safeguarding and AMHP services.
* Strong understanding of national safeguarding frameworks and AMHP legislation.
* Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across agencies.
* A proactive approach to risk management and service improvement.
* The ability to lead and inspire teams, fostering a culture of learning and accountability.
