Job overview

The Royal London Hospital is looking to recruit an Enhance Care Healthcare Support Worker (HCA) Band 3 who will work in the Enhanced Care nursing team at Royal London Hospital. This post is open to individuals who are both experienced Healthcare Support Workers or those new to care.

Individuals that are new to care will receive support to complete the Band 3 competencies and progress into a Band 3 role within six months upon successful completion of all required competencies.

We are looking for compassionate and motivated individuals who are passionate about delivering high-quality, person-centred care in a hospital setting. The role involves undertaking a range of delegated clinical and non clinical tasks, such as:

Therapeutic 1:1 Support for patient needing a high level of care, observations and supervision.

Continues, within eyesight or within arm’s length observation to ensure safety and effectiveness.

Support patient who are high risk of self-harm, harm to others or staff due to physical, mental or behaviour health concerns.

1. Patient observations (e.g., monitoring vital signs)
2. Assisting with personal care and mobility
3. Supporting patients’ nutritional and hydration needs
4. Undertaking limited range of delegated duties (e.g. taking blood pressure, recording ECG, MRSA screening)
5. Simple wound dressings
6. Strong teamworking and communication skills are essential to ensure the comfort, wellbeing, and safety of our patients.

The postholder will work within the Enhanced Care Nursing Team at the Royal London.

Barts Health has a diverse and busy service that may require staff to be flexible in their working. The post holder will be required to work within a challenging clinical environment and may undertake shift work which may include nights and weekends.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an integral part of the Enhance Care nursing team, actively taking part in meeting the needs of patients and provide therapeutic 1:1 support for patient needing a higher level of care, observation and supervision.

Support patient who are risk of self-harm, or harm to others or staff due to physical, mental, or behavioural health concerns. Care include continues, within eyesight or within arm’s length observation to ensure safety and effectiveness

Providing service in accordance with agreed standards under direct supervision of the registered nurse whiles on the wards, and the Enhance Care Team lead. The post holder will continue to develop essential competencies though training and practice to ensure safety and quality are the priority.

This post attracts individuals who are new to care. You will receive support to complete the Band 2 competencies and progress into a Band 3 role within 6 months upon successful completion of all required competencies; until then, you will be placed at a Band 2 salary.

Essential criteria

7. Completion of Care Certificate or equivalent.
8. Basic literacy and numeracy skills (English and Math’s GCSEs or equivalent.)
9. Evidence of ongoing personal development.

Desirable criteria

10. Level 2 support worker Apprenticeship

Experience

11. Demonstrable experience of working in a clinical healthcare setting.
12. Experience of dealing with the public.

Skills

13. Evidence of providing high quality care.
14. To be aware of incident reporting systems and escalation processes.
15. Evidence of effective interpersonal skills.
16. Evidence of good organizational skills.
17. Self-motivated to work under minimal direct supervision.
18. Ability to work as part of a team.
19. Good communication skills, written and verbal.
20. Basic keyboard/ computer skills (e.g. ability to enter patient data onto computer records).

26. Ability to collect and exchange factual information and data to the multidisciplinary team and ensure data accuracy.
