I’m currently partnering with a highly regarded, employee-owned engineering consultancy to appoint a Civil Engineering leader to establish and grow their Manchester capability.
This is a strategic appointment at Principal level or above, offering the opportunity to take ownership of a growing function within a collaborative, design-led business known for its strong culture and technical excellence.
The Role
You will lead and develop the Civil Engineering team in Manchester, working closely with senior leadership across the wider business. This position combines technical oversight, team leadership, and a strong focus on client engagement and business growth.
The project portfolio is heavily infrastructure-led, including drainage design, highways, and development infrastructure, with regular involvement in S278, S38, and related agreements.
Key responsibilities include:
• Leading and coordinating civil engineering design across a range of infrastructure-focused projects
• Collaborating with senior directors and multidisciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery
• Acting as a key client-facing representative, building and strengthening long-term relationships
• Driving business development activity, including work winning, bid submissions, and fee proposals
• Ensuring high standards of technical quality, compliance, and regulatory adherence
• Overseeing project financials, including resource planning, utilisation, and team performance
About You
You will be an experienced Civil Engineering professional currently operating at Principal level (or ready to step up), with a proven ability to lead teams and contribute to business growth.
You will bring:
• Strong technical expertise across infrastructure design, including drainage and highways
• Experience delivering projects involving S278, S38, and similar agreements
• Demonstrated experience leading and developing high-performing teams
• Excellent client management and stakeholder engagement skills
• A commercial mindset, with experience in winning work and supporting bids
• Solid understanding of technical standards, quality assurance, and regulatory requirements
• Experience managing project finances, resources, and delivery performance
