Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant Are you a psychology graduate who wants secondary school experience working alongside pastoral and SEND teams, while building a strong foundation for educational or clinical psychology? Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant Immediate start until July 2026 £82 - £102 per day ‘Outstanding’ secondary school, Ward of Ladywood Ideal for someone starting a career in educational or clinical psychology The Role: You will support pupils across KS3 and KS4, with a focus on inclusion, wellbeing, and access to learning. Your day will sit between classroom support and targeted intervention, helping students who struggle with attention, regulation, anxiety, motivation, or social communication stay on track in lessons. You will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral leads, and the SENCO, following clear support plans and agreed strategies so pupils get consistent input across the week. You will run 1:1 and small group sessions to build routines, organisation, self-management, and confidence, plus support learning tasks in class through chunking, scaffolding, and simple check-ins. You will use calm, predictable approaches, spot early signs of dysregulation, and support de-escalation before behaviours become barriers. You will keep brief, professional notes on what you see and what helps, then feedback to staff so strategies improve over time. Your work aligns with the SEND graduated approach used in England, where support is reviewed and adjusted based on impact. The Candidate: You bring warmth, boundaries, and a steady presence. You notice patterns, respond calmly, and stay consistent even when a pupil is not. You want experience in a school setting before postgraduate training or assistant roles in psychology. - Degree at 2:2 or above, ideally Psychology or a closely related subject - Clear interest in educational psychology, clinical psychology, mental health, or SEND - Confident supporting young people in a structured environment, with patience and professionalism - Comfortable delivering 1:1 and small group support with clear routines and outcomes - Experience with young people through mentoring, tutoring, youth work, coaching, care, or volunteering is desirable - Strong approach to safeguarding, confidentiality, and behaviour expectations - Enhanced DBS required, plus right to work checks, references, and standard school vetting The School: You will work in Ladywood, an inner-city Birmingham ward that includes much of the city centre and surrounding communities.
