This is an exciting opportunity to join the team providing neonatal intensive care at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children (GOSH).

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children is a renowned tertiary centre which provides world-class care to infants, children and young people with rare, complex and difficult-to-treat conditions as well as acute, life threatening illness, many of which are treated on the largest critical intensive care units in the UK.

Main duties of the job

Intensive Care provision at this Trust is a consultant led service. The attending neonatologist will have responsibilities for clinical duties on the Specialised NICU as well as communicating with parents, and referring teams, bed-side teaching, mentoring of trainees and supervision of practical procedures.

When not attending on the Specialised NICU, there will be further clinical commitments on the wards elsewhere in the hospital as part of the neonatal outreach team. This will consist of reviewing neonatal patients with a variety of medical and surgical morbidities on a daily basis during the week and providing clinical advice to the neonatal specialist nurse.

The attached job plan provides an example of the proposed work schedule of the post. This is indicative of the duties that the post would require and should not be seen as a rigid timetable. It is recognised that there will be some changes in this job plan after local negotiation with the Specialty Lead.

A total on average of 9 PAs per week will be direct clinical care, with 1 SPA. Detailed calculations shown in job summary.

Working for our organisation

We are keen to make our workforce as diverse as the communities we serve, and we hope to attract applications from underrepresented groups, including people with Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic heritage, people with a disability, and people from LGBTQ+ communities. By growing an ever more diverse workforce, we’ll have a greater range of perspectives and knowledge, meaning that we can provide the children and young people at our hospital with even better care.

Our hospital is committed to creating an environment that is open and inclusive. Our staff are encouraged to engage with colleagues through the following networks: REACH (Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage) ENABLED (Enhancing Abilities & Leveraging Disabilities Network), PRIDE and Women’s networks; all of which are sponsored by a member of our Executive Management Team.

We want to ensure that all of our people, regardless of their background, are seen and heard. We want to attract applicants that share our commitment to inclusion and that understand diversity is a strength that is embraced and valued.
