Job Overview
Main area Nursing and Midwifery Grade NHS AfC: Band 3, Contract Permanent, Full time – 37.5 hours per week. Post located at Halstead Community Hospital, Essex. Salary £25,760–£27,476 per year. Closing date 26/05/2026.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Deliver sensitive, appropriate and high quality patient care under the direction of qualified nursing staff, respecting the patient’s privacy, dignity and cultural or religious beliefs.
* Maintain and promote a safe working environment for patients, visitors and staff, with particular reference to infection control and health and safety.
* Contribute to the effective management of information, ensuring it is handled and exchanged with care, accuracy and sensitivity, maintaining patient and clinical confidentiality at all times.
* Assist in maintaining supplies at agreed levels and ensure that repairs and replacements are ordered appropriately.
* Maintain and promote effective communication within the multidisciplinary care team and with other colleagues, patients, relatives and visitors.
* Provide personal care to patients.
* Monitor observations including heart rate and blood pressure.
* Calculate and report observations using the NEWS scoring system to appropriate staff.
* Support patients with regaining mobility and ability as per therapy goals.
* Observe and monitor wound and skin integrity.
* Perform wound dressings and care.
* Support nutrition, including knowledge of modified diets and fluid requirements.
* Monitor fluid input and output for patients and elevate concerns as appropriate.
* Provide continence care and catheter care.
* Collect urine samples (MSUs and CSUs) and perform urinalysis.
* Phlebotomy.
* Record blood glucose monitoring.
* Stoma care.
* Microbiology swabbing.
* Perform ECGs.
* Assist in providing emotional and psychological support to patients and their families.
* Support and train bank/agency staff.
* Maintain and order supplies of clinical equipment.
* Carry out monitoring and auditing (infection prevention, NEWS scoring).
* Support trained staff in completing assessments in care plans under RN supervision – falls assessments, bed rail assessments and incontinence assessments.
* Assist with the admission and discharge of patients to/from the ward.
Qualifications
* English and Maths qualification.
Experience
* Care Certificate.
* Care experience of 2+ years.
