Engineering Technician – Baggage

Are you our next Engineering Technician – Baggage? We are looking for someone who can help us redefine what's possible for our Engineering department.
The Engineering team delivers what matters. They protect, maintain, and repair our infrastructure—from the electricity that powers this place to giant plant rooms that heat and cool the airport, and specialist equipment on the airfield.
What is the role?
To conduct planned and reactive maintenance and intervention tasks on all plant and equipment that make up the baggage systems at Gatwick Airport. To ensure duties are of a high standard and maximize operational uptime. This is a shift-based position, including night and weekend work.
This role is critical in supporting Baggage operations at Gatwick, with key assets including complex conveyor systems, sortation machines, carousels, scanners, PLCs, and IT-based control systems.
What will you do?
1. Undertake planned preventative/corrective maintenance, considering asset performance and operational requirements.
2. Ensure all engineering and operational records are up to date to meet business, regulatory, and manufacturer requirements.
3. Support performance improvement activities and programmes.
4. Take responsibility for safety, including wearing PPE, completing mandatory training, and reporting accidents, incidents, and near misses.
5. Use GAL IT systems (Ultimo, MyHub, P2W, Microsoft Office) as required.
6. Develop skills and knowledge to maintain and operate existing and new assets.
7. Undertake role-specific training.
8. Work in passenger-facing areas and back-of-house areas across the airport campus.
9. Collaborate with colleagues; this role has no direct reports.
Do you have what we're looking for?
* Advanced modern apprenticeship (Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronic) or equivalent.
* Core skills in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering to at least ONC level (Level 3).
* Technical experience in a maintenance environment.
* Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical schematic drawings.
* Proven experience in a relevant engineering discipline.
* Ability to carry out system performance improvements.
* Knowledge of 17th Edition IEE wiring regulations.
* Valid driving license.
Interview Process
1. 30-minute virtual discussion with the hiring manager.
2. One-hour technical assessment with Hiring Manager and Engineering Leader.
