Technical Hardware Lead – 12-Month Contract (Outside IR35)

Next-Generation Civilian Aerospace Program (Non-Defence)

Hybrid Working – by Henley-on-Thames

Are you an experienced hardware engineering leader looking to take charge of cutting-edge technology within a next-generation aerospace environment? We’re supporting an innovative organisation near Henley-on-Thames developing advanced civilian aerospace systems, and they’re seeking a Technical Hardware Lead to drive complex subsystem and system-level projects from concept through validation to work on a hybrid 12 months basis.

This is a rare opportunity to influence technical strategy, shape engineering best practice, and lead a high-performing hardware team—while contributing directly to a pioneering new aerospace platform.

Why This Role Stands Out

As the Technical Hardware Lead, you’ll hold genuine technical authority. You’ll guide architecture, design, validation, and cross-functional integration while ensuring every subsystem meets stringent performance, reliability, and compliance targets.

This role offers a powerful blend of hands-on engineering, technical leadership, and team development, giving you the space to mentor engineers, uplift processes, and embed high-quality engineering across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Delivery

* Serve as the technical lead for all hardware subsystem projects
* Define requirements, specifications, and performance targets
* Lead CDRs, TRRs, and ensure design maturity throughout the lifecycle
* Plan milestones, allocate resources, and manage technical risks

Hardware Design & Validation

* Oversee schematic design, PCB layout, and component selection
* Guide hardware bring-up, debugging, and system-level integration
* Review design documentation, analysis, and verification reports
* Lead validation planning and compliance readiness (EMI/EMC, thermal, vibration)

Team Development & Leadership & process

* Manage and mentor the hardware engineering team
* Conduct 1:1s, performance reviews, and development planning
* Support hiring, onboarding, and professional growth
* Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture
* Champion structured engineering processes (PDR, CDR, TRR)
* Maintain traceability, documentation quality, and design standards
* Work closely with suppliers, manufacturers, and program management
* Support NPI, ramp-up, and sustaining engineering activities

What We’re Looking For

* Strong background with PDR/CDR/TRR processes
* background in analog, digital, RF, power, or mixed-signal design
* Proficiency with PCB tools (Altium or similar)
* Solid understanding of system integration, SI, DFM/DFT, and validation
* Excellent communication, leadership, and mentoring skills
1. Interested?

If this sounds like the perfect next step, please send an up-to-date CV.

Interview Availability:

* Wednesday – 11:00am
* Thursday – 3:00pm

The client can also offer a pre-Christmas start, with flexibility for the right person.
