About the Role
EKFB is a joint venture that brings together international, market‑leading expertise from four leading civil engineering and construction companies: Eiffage, Kier, Ferrovial Construction and BAM Nuttall. All four partners have specialist expertise in the design, construction, operation, financing and maintenance of railway networks, including the construction of one of Europe’s latest high‑speed rail projects.
We are looking for a Soil Scientist to join our team based in the Calvert area.
Responsibilities
* Audit the stockpiling, management, handling and auditing of topsoil and subsoil stockpiles to satisfy contract requirements.
* Work with and direct the site team in these operations and record information about the soil and its management.
* Assess the stockpiled soil condition (physical characteristics such as plasticity and soil storage/handling practices), inspect soil reconditioning windrows, inspect restored soil profiles and review ITP.
* Provide soil condition reports detailing the restoration works undertaken and replaced.
* Understand engineering/construction requirements and methodology of a large construction scheme.
* Work independently, make decisions, and maintain communication lines on site.
* Provide direction and advice to contractors, offering practical solutions.
* Lead soil scientists/practitioners carrying out soil surveys and record natural physical properties of soils.
About You
Key Skills and Qualifications
* Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in soil science, geography, geology or another relevant environmental discipline.
* Member of the British Society of Soil Science (M.I. Soil Sci.).
* Professional soil scientist with competence in Agricultural Land Classification (ALC).
* A track‑record in soil science research or application – preferably on infrastructure projects.
* Proficient using GIS systems and MS Office productivity packages.
* Sound knowledge of soils and how to identify soil types on site – including ALC grade.
* A logical approach to soil surveying and recording the in‑situ profile.
* Proficient in the use of IT.
* Current CSCS card holder.
* Driving licence required for this role.
