Clinical Research Fellow - EDS Service

Overview
The successful appointee will have a combined clinical and research role within the Ehlers-Danlos Syndromes (EDS) diagnostic service. They will see patients under the supervision of EDS consultants, develop their learning in EDS and related inherited connective tissue conditions, and take part in research on rare monogenic EDS.
Main Duties
* Full time, fixed term post delivering clinics and research into rare monogenic EDS.
* Suitable for registrar level clinicians in Rheumatology, Clinical Genetics, Cardiology, Dermatology, Vascular Surgery or other relevant specialties.
* Base for the post is the EDS service within London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust.
Key Responsibilities
* After an observation period, prepare for weekly clinics and begin seeing patients independently with supervision.
* Conduct clinical assessments, genetic counselling, pedigree drawing and risk estimation.
* Discuss cases with genetic counsellors to improve counselling skills.
* Attend clinical meetings and multidisciplinary team (MDT) sessions and contribute to complex case presentations.
* Recruit patients to the EDS study, contribute to scientific publications, and help prepare grant applications.

* Monday - EDS clinical work
* Tuesday - Research work
* Wednesday - Clinical team meetings, EDS administration
* Thursday - Research and clinical administration, translational work
* Friday - EDS clinical work

Person Specification - Registration
* GMC registration.
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
* Full MRCP (UK) or full MRCP(CH) at the time of application.
* Intercalated BSc or equivalent.
Knowledge and Expertise
* Up-to-date clinical knowledge and fit to practise safely.
* Evidence of experience in adult or paediatric medicine.
* Proven experience in clinical research.
* Experience of managing patients with EDS and/or inherited connective tissue conditions.
Teaching
* Experience teaching undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff.
* Evidence of ongoing interest and achievement in research.
Management and Audit
* Understanding of clinical governance principles.
* Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively.
* Experience of research governance procedures.
* Strategic planning and sound judgement in conflicting pressures.
* IT skills and computer literacy.
* Understanding and experience of audit.
* Current study or qualification towards a management qualification.

Research/Publication

Salary
£44,170 - £67,610 per annum (depending on experience).
