Overview
The post holder will liaise with key members of the multidisciplinary team and service users related to the speciality. The role involves responsible management of patient care with supervision from senior staff, and supporting the Charge Nurse/Senior Sister to monitor safety and quality of care. In the absence of the Junior Sister/Charge Nurse, the post holder will manage day-to-day ward operations.
Responsibilities
* Be responsible for all aspects of patient care including assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of direct patient care with supervision from senior staff.
* Manage a group of Nursing Assistants and assign delegated tasks and responsibilities as appropriate.
* Ensure compliance with mandatory training and appraisal requirements for delegated Nursing Assistants.
* Promote a positive, patient-centred service incorporating patient feedback to maintain and improve patient care.
* Act as an effective role model promoting excellence through practice and maintain professional behaviour to promote a positive image of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust at all times, in line with World Class Care values.
* Be responsible for unsupervised assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of care plans, ensuring high standards of evidence-based care.
* Undertake nursing procedures in accordance with Trust policies and ensure adherence by all staff within own management responsibility.
* Ensure accurate and comprehensive patient records are maintained using appropriate written and electronic documentation, including serious incident recording and reporting.
* Supervise unqualified staff to ensure they have the knowledge, skills and resources to carry out delegated aspects of care.
* Take an active role in the induction and orientation of new Nursing Assistants.
* Demonstrate effective time management and prioritisation of workload; demonstrate good leadership and ensure effective communication between the patient, relatives, and the multidisciplinary team.
Deliveries and Standards
Deliver a good quality standard of care to patients and establish effective working relations with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to promote good communication and a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.
