Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner

An exciting, brand-new opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, dynamic and motivated Band 4 Occupational Therapy Rehabilitation Assistant Practitioner to join the team at the Colman Centre for Specialist Rehabilitation Services within Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust. The post will be based in the Specialist Neurological Rehabilitation Service (Caroline House).
We would welcome applicants who are organised, resourceful and have a passion for supporting and enhancing the work of the Occupational Therapy team and advocating for our patients with complex needs. You will be joining an experienced, supportive and creative team working to meet the physical, cognitive and functional needs of both in-patients with highly complex profiles.
Main duties of the job
* To assist the Occupational Therapists on a daily basis in supporting patients with complex physical and cognitive difficulties under the direction/guidance of clinicians. This is mostly based on the ward but will also include some work in the community.
* The OT Rehabilitation Assistant Practitioner will work as part of the multidisciplinary team providing support to Occupational Therapists by contributing to the assessment and treatment programs for patients with a range of impairments and complex health needs.
* The role includes working with patients and their families, under the direction of qualified therapists.
* The needs of this patient group demand physical and mental resilience, and a need to engage in manual handling activities, personal hygiene care tasks, and to work with people who have challenging behaviours.
* The role includes indirect tasks which support the patient's care and therapy needs, such as administration tasks and management of equipment.
* The role is based in the inpatient but will involve driving.
* Able to cover a 7-day rota to meet the needs of the service.

Qualifications
* Good general education to GCSE level or equivalent including English and Maths
* Foundation degree level knowledge and experience or equivalent.
* Demonstrable specialist knowledge and skills in relation to neurological rehabilitation acquired through training and experience
Experience
* Have worked within a rehabilitation service with experience of carrying out assessments and / or therapeutic interventions
* Lone working
* Experience of working in a neuro rehabilitation service across in-patients and out-patients
Skills
* IT skills including word and excel
* Health, safety and risk awareness
* Organisational skills including the ability to manage own workload
* Ability to use own initiative
* Evidence of own development through PDR
