About the School:

A warm, nurturing, and inclusive special school in Liverpool is seeking an experienced SEN Teacher to join its dedicated team. The school supports exceptional children aged 2–11 with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), severe learning difficulties (SLD), and complex autism. Every pupil has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), and the school is committed to providing a safe, stimulating environment where each child’s individual strengths and needs are at the centre of their learning journey.


The Role:

The school is looking for a passionate and skilled SEN Teacher who is experienced in supporting children with complex learning needs. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and delivering highly personalised learning experiences, working collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and families to ensure each pupil can make meaningful progress across all areas of development.


Key Responsibilities:

* Plan, deliver, and assess engaging, differentiated lessons that support the wide-ranging needs of pupils with PMLD, SLD, and autism.
* Use sensory, play-based, and communication-focused approaches to promote engagement and independence.
* Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, and external professionals to provide consistent, holistic support.
* Create a nurturing classroom environment that supports emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and wellbeing.
* Maintain accurate records, contribute to EHCP reviews, and set appropriate individual learning targets.
* Use a range of alternative communication methods (e.g., Makaton, PECS) to support pupils’ expressive and receptive communication.
* Lead the class team effectively, modelling high-quality SEND practice and supporting colleagues’ development.


Essential Qualities and Skills:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

* Significant experience teaching children with PMLD, SLD, and/or complex autism.
* A deep understanding of SEND pedagogy, including sensory integration and personalised learning approaches.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage positively with families and multi-disciplinary teams.
* Creativity, patience, and empathy, with a genuine passion for improving outcomes for children with complex needs.
* Resilience and emotional maturity, able to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations.
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to lead and motivate a class team.
* A thorough understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.


Desirable:

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification.
* Training in autism support strategies, sensory approaches, communication systems, or behaviour support.
* Experience using Makaton, PECS, or other AAC systems.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
