+ To provide effective, efficient, and high-quality physiotherapy treatment programmes for respiratory patients in the community setting and within the pulmonary rehabilitation service.
+ To lead assessments, group education sessions, and exercise classes, adjusting exercises according to patients' health status on that day.
+ To undertake oxygen therapy assessment and prescription (Long term oxygen therapy and ambulatory oxygen).
+ To act as a source of expertise on the management of respiratory patients, providing support and advice to other health professionals and agencies both within and external to the Trust.
+ To communicate with patients in a way that empowers them to make informed choices about the management of their condition and engages them in planning and delivering treatment, considering cultural, linguistic, medical, emotional, psychological, and physical factors, and utilising available resources for effective communication.
+ To communicate complex patient-related information effectively, ensuring collaborative working within the Multi-Disciplinary Team.
+ To liaise with all referring agencies to facilitate an effective and timely service.
+ To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, ensuring high standards of clinical care. To organize the clinical caseload with good time management skills and the ability to prioritize as necessary.
+ To contribute to service development and patient/care pathway improvements, and to develop the skills required for this.
+ To participate in evidence-based projects, including recommendations for change in practice, departmental audits, and clinical innovation using research evidence and clinical networks.
+ To manage a varied caseload of clients referred from primary, secondary care, and self-referrals.
+ To maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date documentation in line with legal and departmental requirements, and communicate assessment and treatment results to relevant disciplines via reports and letters.
+ To manage clinical risk within own caseload and the team, ensuring effective risk management across services, including support staff and rehabilitation assistants.
+ To assist in training, supervising, and the clinical development of junior staff.
+ To communicate effectively with patients, carers, GPs, consultants, and other agencies, maximizing rehabilitation potential and ensuring understanding of conditions. Skills in persuasion, motivation, explanation, and obtaining informed consent are essential, considering potential barriers such as hearing loss, dysphasia, pain, and fear. Some patients may lack capacity to consent.
+ To be responsible for equipment used in physiotherapy duties, adhering to departmental policies, ensuring competence, and teaching safe equipment use.
+ To ensure clinical governance and risk management are integral to the service, reporting issues promptly.
+ To report all accidents or near misses as required.
+ To oversee the daily management, supervision, and coordination of the designated team, including staff appraisal, performance management, and recruitment.
+ To participate actively in departmental meetings.
