Environmental & Permitting Engineer

About the Role
We’re looking for an Environment & Permitting Engineer to join our SHEQ Compliance team. This critical role will ensure that all environmental regulations and permitting requirements are met, supporting operations at an upper-tier COMAH establishment.

Key Responsibilities
As an Environmental & Permitting Engineer, you will:
* Manage Environmental Permitting & Compliance: Prepare and assess applications for EPR and PPC permits, ensuring all regulatory requirements are met.
* Support COMAH Compliance: Ensure adherence to environmental obligations related to being an upper-tier COMAH operator.
* Deliver Regulatory Requirements: Support ESOS compliance, carbon trading programs, and refine ISO 14001 and IATF systems.
* Develop & Implement Environmental Policies: Lead the implementation of EHS UK policies, ensuring best environmental management practices.
* Incident Management: Ensure all environmental accidents and incidents are documented, investigated, and improvements are tracked to completion.
* Occupational Hygiene Support: Work closely with Occupational Hygiene teams to maintain a safe working environment.
* Regulatory Liaison: Engage with enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and conduct audits as necessary.
* Performance Reporting: Provide environmental performance data and reports to support strategic improvements.
* Training & Awareness: Implement and assist in developing an environmental training strategy to enhance compliance and sustainability knowledge.
* Pollution Control & Waste Management: Coordinate waste management, pollution control, and recycling initiatives, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability.
Qualifications & Experience
To succeed in this role, you’ll need:
* A degree in Environmental Science, Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
* Advanced-level Health & Safety qualifications from an accredited body (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH).
* Experience maintaining, developing, and auditing Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001 preferred).
* A deep understanding of environmental legislation, formal risk assessment techniques, and compliance requirements.
* Expertise in ISO 14001 and ensuring relevant standards align with operational activities.
* Familiarity with British & European environmental regulations, including EA permitting.
* Strong problem-solving abilities, with experience in conducting environmental audits.
* Experience managing pollution control, waste management, and environmental health policies.
* Proficiency in MS applications, MS Project, and AutoCAD.
* A self-starter mentality, with excellent communication and leadership skills.
