The role of the Planning and Controls Lead is to work with stakeholders to ensure all aspects of the programme are defined. The planner provides clarity on key milestones to define what, when, and how activities will be organised to ensure the outcomes of a project can be achieved, with the resources available. They lead on all aspects of project planning, including managing the development, updating, and monitoring of plans and schedules. They identify tasks, activities, interdependencies, and outputs for the project and work with the project team to track and monitor progress throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide visible and effective leadership, lead the planning team, develop a clear vision and standards, and champion best practices in project planning, tools, and processes. Build strong internal and external networks.
2. Apply advanced knowledge in project planning to analyze and resolve risks and issues and identify opportunities.
3. Analyse project performance data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and collaboration opportunities, selecting appropriate methods and tools for resolution.
4. Create, maintain, and own PP&C processes, procedures, and planning standards.
5. Identify future capacity and capability needs of the planning function and develop strategies to meet them.
6. Build and maintain external networks to access best practices and professional expertise.
7. Provide guidance and support to ensure successful project delivery, advising the Project Manager on planning approaches, tools, and processes during project initiation. Lead the introduction of industry-standard planning practices and build planning capability.
8. Serve as the product owner for Project Web App, maintaining user access for all projects.
9. Manage proposed new software for compliance under NEC4, such as My Projects.
10. Contribute to CC&P inputs, attend, and present at monthly meetings and project boards.
