Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated qualified or soon to be qualified Radiographer. This is a great opportunity for a Band 5 Diagnostic Radiographer. We invite you to join our friendly, dynamic team at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We host diagnostic services in four sites offering clinical services across a diverse range of specialities.


Opportunity and development

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team as a band 5 General Radiographer. New team members will be supported with a structured induction, and support from all members of the Radiology team. New team members are supported and encouraged to develop their radiography and patient care skills. Successful candidates will gain a wide range of experience including trauma imaging, general and specialist orthopaedic imaging, theatre and mobile imaging, paediatrics, fluoroscopy, and dental radiography. We are committed to providing increased opportunities to gain more experience in specialised areas. We have recently introduced the Apprentice Assistant Practitioner role in 2022 and have a fantastic reporting radiographer team, as well as advanced clinical practitioners performing GI fluoroscopy procedures.


Work pattern and site details

This position carries a commitment to flexible working hours and will include on-call at Wrightington across a 7-day working week. The site is a designated Trauma Unit which supports the Greater Manchester Trauma Network. Staff may attend these areas to perform mobile imaging, including neonatal imaging.


About WWL and locations

Wrightington Orthopaedic Centre of Excellence delivers world renowned innovations in orthopaedic care from some of the UK’s leading Consultants, many whom have an international reputation for surgical excellence. At the Thomas Linacre Outpatient centre we image a variety of GP and patients from the outpatient clinics. Leigh Infirmary has been chosen as the location of our new state of the art Community Diagnostic Centre. The existing General Radiography rooms are to be replaced with high specification Digital Radiography equipment to image patients referred from Primary Care, patients from the Walk in Centre and outpatient clinics. The Royal Albert Edward Infirmary provides a base for emergency and acute work. The department hosts an interventional suite which offers the opportunity of rotation as well as general fluoroscopic techniques that are delivered in two recently upgraded fluoroscopy rooms. The team undertake a range of procedures. The site at Wigan manages patients from a wide range of clinical specialities including Surgery, Medicine, Critical Care and Paediatrics.

The site is a designated Trauma Unit which supports the Greater Manchester Trauma Network. The service has a dedicated Paediatric Emergency Care Unit with a large Maternity Unit and Paediatric ward. Staff may attend these areas to perform mobile imaging, including neonatal imaging.


The role

The Band 5 Radiographer will have responsibility, for the delivery of a high quality, efficient and effective plain film imaging service. There will be occasions when the post holder will take an active role in the efficient use of rooms and staffing across all sites of Wrightington Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust including Wrightington, Royal Albert Edward Infirmary, Leigh Infirmary, and the Thomas Linacre Centre.

* The post holder will be responsible for helping to train student radiographers, as well as their own clinical and first line management.
* The post holder will ensure they operate within robust clinical governance and quality assurance guidelines. They will also be involved in undertaking audits of standards and performance.
* Optimum patient care will be achieved whilst working within the strict Radiation Protection guidelines governed by the Royal College of Radiologist, the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations, IR(ME)R 2017, the Ionising Radiation Regulations, IRR2017 and the local support offered by the Radiation Protection Advisor at the Medical Physics department of the Christie Hospital.
* Quality standards of imaging will be achieved by the Trust wide implementation, monitoring and continuation of the Technically Suboptimal X-ray (TSX) process which involves radiologists and radiographers of all grades across all sites. This 360 degree feedback and education process will support them in developing their role and clinical skills.
