As a Customs Analyst, you’ll be responsible for coordinating business activities, including the monitoring and reconciliation of accounts, to ensure compliance with UK and overseas customs and related requirements. This role offers a great opportunity for someone with finance experience and an understanding of tax and customs, who brings strong attention to detail and accuracy, along with a genuine willingness to learn and grow within tax and customs. This is a full-time, permanent role which will be based flexibly across our Cornwall head office locations (minimum 40% of working week) and remotely within the UK. You’ll help us by: Working closely with the Tax Accountant to ensure compliance with UK and overseas customs requirements. Maintaining detailed documentation on Seasalt’s import and export processes and developing a reporting framework to demonstrate and communicate compliance. Monitoring and reconciliation of customs data sources and overseas deferment accounts, reviewing entry information from HMRC and other customs authorities to ensure information reflects Seasalt’s intended filing. Reconciling entry information to freight agent invoices and ensuring that Seasalt’s accounts correctly reflect customs and import VAT and deferred liabilities. Supporting the development of commercial invoicing facilities from AX or other sources, and in liaison with Wholesale and Logistics teams ensuring that invoices are produced in line with established requirements, and maintained in the database. Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements on commodity codes and rules of origin, liaising with Buying to proactively carrying out sample audits, and developing a reporting framework to demonstrate and communicate compliance. Liaising with Buying and Logistics to establish the base charges for freight, duty, and commission on purchased goods for resale, reconciling accrued charges in the system (AX) to invoiced costs, and providing recommendations for charge amendments or accrual write-offs. Producing periodic AEO audit and other statutory compliance activities including reviews of infrastructure, systems, processes and personnel, ensuring changes are documented, reported and embedded in business processes. Support the Tax Accountant with VAT/GST returns, queries and the reconciliation of AX entries and supplier accounts. Researching and advising on potential new supplier or customer territories, liaising with external customs advisors as necessary. Providing management information as requested, reporting on and reviewing KPIs monthly with the Tax Accountant. Reviewing and refining processes for robustness, efficiency, and control, proposing improvements as appropriate to the Tax Accountant and leading the definition, documentation, and implementation of process changes. Building and maintaining partnerships and strong relationships with stakeholders, such as the Logistics team. The skills you’ll be sharing with the team: AAT qualified or qualified by experience. Part qualified or qualified by experience accountant (ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, ICAEW) would be desirable. Working knowledge of UK and international customs procedures and related indirect tax frameworks. IT literate with good working knowledge of IT packages including MS Word, Excel, Outlook as a minimum. Numerate with excellent attention to detail. An analytical mind. Rigorous, methodical and logical approach to problems. Organised with excellent time management. Able to prioritise and work autonomously. Good team player. Excellent communications skills (IT, verbal, telephone and written). Follows procedures through to conclusion.
