The role
Job Description Summary Job Description Roles & Responsibilities: Lead PCB and product failure analysis activities across production, test, ensuring issues are diagnosed accurately and resolved effectively down to root cause. - Perform component-level fault finding on failed PCBs, assemblies, and finished products using structured diagnostic methods. - Investigate production, test, and field-return failures to identify technical root cause and define robust corrective and preventive actions. - Support product build and test activities by providing clear failure analysis feedback, containment guidance, and engineering support to production teams. Produce clear root cause analysis reports for PCB and product failures, including evidence, conclusions, actions, owners, and completion timescales. Apply strong electronic hardware knowledge to diagnose failures within the following areas: - Digital and microprocessor-based circuits. - Memories, DSPs, and microcontrollers. - Analogue. - Power supply circuits. Work closely with Hardware Engineering, R&D, Software, Applications, Quality, Manufacturing, and Production teams to resolve PCB and product failure issues. Provide technical expertise to ensure timely resolution of production-related failures on existing product ranges. Ensure all investigations follow documented policies, procedures, quality standards, and traceability requirements. Analyse failed production PCBs and products to identify repeat issues, trends, and opportunities for design, process, or test improvement. Use structured problem-solving techniques to support containment, corrective action, and prevention of recurring failures. Apply Lean principles to improve failure analysis turnaround time, investigation quality, and production support effectiveness. Qualifications: Degree qualified in a relevant electronics, electrical, manufacturing, or engineering discipline, with 2 years relevant experience preferred. HND in Electronics with an approved apprenticeship and a minimum of 3 years' relevant experience. Strong practical experience in PCB and product failure analysis, including component-level diagnosis and verification of failure modes. Experience using appropriate test, diagnostic, design, and simulation tools to support electronic failure investigations. Proven ability to lead failure investigations from initial fault identification through to root cause confirmation and full corrective action implementation within business timescales. Detailed knowledge of production test philosophies and the ability to use test data to support PCB and product failure analysis. High level of electronic hardware knowledge, with the ability to understand circuit designs, diagnose faults to component level, propose support solutions, and prevent recurrence. _ GE Vernova is not able to sponsor employment visas or provide immigration support for this role.
